About the Project

The western Swedish region is a crucial part of Sweden’s economy, housing many major players and requiring more power to continue industrial development, research and development activities, and the electrification of society.

The Västvind wind power park could potentially add about 4–4.5 TWh of renewable electricity annually to the western Swedish electricity grid. This can be compared to the electricity consumption in Gothenburg Municipality and Västra Götaland County, which was reported as 4.2 TWh and 18.4 TWh respectively in 2019. Therefore, the wind power park could play a significant role in realizing future industrial establishments, research and development activities, and the electrification of society.

The two alternative landfall points in Gothenburg and Tjörn municipalities for the connection cable provide the opportunity for direct delivery, with minimal losses, of locally produced renewable power to industries and businesses in Western Sweden.
