Eolus Vind AB (Eolus) is investigating the conditions for an offshore wind farm in the northern Kattegatt in Sweden’s territorial waters and exclusive economic zone off the municipalities of Kungälv and Öckerö. Eolus is planning for 50 wind turbines with a total height up to 320 m in this area.
The region of West Sweden is important to the country’s industry and commerce. There are several major players here and there is a need for more power in the region in order to continue developing industry, research and development activities and the electrification of society.
Västvind wind farm will be able to supply an additional 4–4.5 TWh of renewable electricity to the power grid in West Sweden every year. This compares with the electricity consumption figures for Gothenburg Municipality and Västra Götaland County which were reported in 2019 as 4.2 TWh and 18.4 TWh respectively. The wind farm can therefore play a significant role in the realisation of future industrial establishments, research and development activities, and the electrification of society. The two options for connection cable landing points in the municipalities of Gothenburg and Tjörn provide the possibility of direct delivery, with small losses, of locally generated renewable power to industries and activities in West Sweden.
We are keen to obtain views on the project and receive local knowledge about the area. This information will be used in the ongoing investigation of the conditions for the project. All comments received will be compiled and addressed in a consultation report, which will be submitted together with the permit application.
The purpose of the consultation is for us to provide information about the project, obtain views and answer questions. The relevant authorities, local associations and organisations are also invited to participate in the consultation. In order to reach a wider public, information about the consultation will also be advertised in local newspapers. The consultation runs until 16 January 2022.
A consultation paper has been published at: https://samrad.sweco.se/vastvind.
This describes the project and what it may mean in more detail, based on current knowledge. If you would like to have the consultation paper sent to you by post, please contact us using the contact details below.
We look forward to receiving your comments by 16 January 2022. You can submit them in writing using the comments form on the consultation portal or you can send them by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by letter to the address below.
